Repair of Small Cracks & Holes

Small (under 1/8") cracks and holes in the K-Mass® will generally not diminish the fire proofing of the protected object. However the cracks/holes should be filled as soon as possible to prevent water from getting trapped. Corrosion of the protected equipment and widening of the cracks/holes through freeze/thaw cycles could result.

We recommend the following simple steps to correct the problem:

1. Enlarge the crack/hole to no more then 1/8" by using basic wood working tools.
2. Make sure that the surface is free of oil and grease or other potential release agents.
3. Fill enlarged cracks/holes with 3M Fire Barrier CP 25WB+ caulk or equivalent.
4. Touch up with Endura EX-2C two part Urethane paint or equivalent.

NOTE: Use 3M Fire Barrier 2000, silicon or other comparable fillers to temporarily weather proof small cracks/holes until permanent repair procedures are possible. (e.g Winter)
